A former Nigerian Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has condemned the alleged attack on the Ibadan residence of Yoruba activist, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho.
Naija Studio had reported that the house got burnt in the early hours of Tuesday and the affected residence is said to be Igboho’s old house in the Soka area in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
However, the cause of the fire has not been confirmed as of the time of filing this report, but unverified reports claimed that the incident was a reprisal by the Fulanis days after the house of their Seriki was burnt in Igangan.
Confirming the sad incident, one of Igboho’s aides said the attack could be a reprisal, adding that Igboho would continue to champion the course of Yorubas.
He said: “Igboho has two houses in Soka. The old and the new one where he lives now. The old one got burnt overnight. We suspect foul play. It could be the work of people who don’t like what we are doing to liberate Yoruba from the oppression.”
But in a tweet via his Twitter handle on Tuesday, Fani-Kayode describes the perpetrators of the act as cowards who are running scared.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, however, asked Nigerians to shun war, conflict, bloodshed, and carnage which will destroy the country.
“Burning Igboho’s house at 3.00a.m. in the morning only proves that you are nothing but cowards & that you are running scared. I pray you do not get what you are looking for. War, conflict, bloodshed & carnage are best avoided. Let your madness stop here before it is too late,” he wrote.
Meanwhile, Igboho has been tipped to be the overall leader of the Amotekun Security Outfit in the South West.
It is however understood that the matter is still pending before the governors as not all of them have agreed to the proposal, though the majority are in support.
Naija Studio recalls the Amotekun outfit was set up as a regional security outfit to tackle rising cases of killings, kidnappings, and other crimes in the South-West region.
Sources quoted by The Cable revealed the governors of the region are now considering co-opting Igboho to lead the Amotekun outfit
