Police Rescued A 12-Year-Old Girl Who Had Been Imprisoned And Starving For Eight Months

Joy Emmanuel, a 12-year-old teen, was rescued by Sokoto police after being kept captive for eight months by her guardians.

Joy was reportedly locked up and denied food by her guardians, Bassey and Esther Emmanuel, at their home in the Sokoto Cinema area of the Sokoto North Local Government Area, according to sources.

ASP Sanusi Abubakar, a spokesman for the state police headquarters, said the victim was rescued on Thursday, May 13. At the Dadin Kowa police station, the victim’s guardian was arrested and detained.

“They starved the child for eight months in a cage at their compound.

The girl was too weak to walk when our men smashed the cage door open because she was emaciated. We encountered her in a dreadful state, urinating and excreting inside the enclosure. He said the girl was taken to a specialist’s hospital for treatment.
