Students At Ilaro Poly Scream For Help After Being Raped And Robbed 1

Students at the Federal Polytechnic in Ilaro, Ogun State, have appealed to the Nigeria Police Force’s state command, as well as the Ogun State government, to save them from a ‘ongoing attack’ by gunmen suspected of being armed robbers.

The students, the most of whom live off-campus, claim that they are no longer safe because of the frequency with which robbers target them at night.

Going to bed at night has become extremely risky for them, as they fear an unannounced visit from armed thieves.

Several female students have been raped by armed bandits, who also make off with their phones, computers, money, and other belongings, including food, according to Vanguard.

“On Saturday night, these gunmen struck again, they broke into buildings to rob,” one of the students, who talked with Vanguard on condition of anonymity, said. To gain access to buildings, they fired guns and shattered the burglar-proof doors.”

“A gunshot struck one of the students in the eye. They raped female students and stole their belongings. We’re pleading for assistance. We’ve been working on this for almost a week.”

“No one seems to be doing anything about it.” Our girls were raped, and our homes were destroyed. We have no idea what’s going on. Nigerians should lend a hand to help us.”

According to our source, a lot of pupils have left the school atmosphere for their various homes because there appears to be no aid on the horizon.

It was revealed that landowners in Ilaro’s student-dominated districts convened on April 12 to make judgments about the city’s security needs.

“At the conclusion of the conference, it was decided that all CDAs in Ilaro must hire night guards and students must obtain tenancy paperwork.”

Movement is prohibited from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. while urging the polytechnic to aid the police with a siren.
The students, on the other hand, said that nothing has changed since the discussion with the landlords.

The administrators of the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, reportedly put an end to a planned student demonstration (FPI).
Despite the protests and social media posts, the polytechnic’s Public Relations Officer, Sola Abiola, said he was unaware of the happenings.

When contacted, Azeez Adeyemi, the Special Assistant to Governor Dapo Abiodun on Students’ Matters, verified the occurrence but said he couldn’t back up the charges of rape.
The state administration, according to Adeyemi, is doing all possible to avert the crisis, and the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) is working to stop the attack on Ilaro polytechnic students.

He stated that a meeting with Ogun Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, would be held to find a long-term solution to the matter.

“We are not leaving any stone unturned in our efforts to put an end to this.” We’ve already started working on it. NANS is also a part of it. We’re meeting with the CP as well. As a result, we’re on top of everything.”
